As part of its goal to provide alternative energy to its properties, Wyndham Destinations, a Travel + Leisure Co. division and the world’s largest vacation ownership brand, just completed its newest solar installation project.
The installation at Limetree Beach Resort by Club Wyndham in St. Thomas is now complete, and the installation at WorldMark Clear Lake Resort in Nice, California, will be completed this spring. In addition to the 17 other properties with solar technologies, these two installations will produce an anticipated yearly solar output of more than nine million kilowatt-hours.
Wyndham has installed over 18,000 solar panels across its 19 sites.
Solar power is only one component of a wider picture. Wyndham is investing in technologies and possibilities to minimize water and energy use across its 245 resorts as part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.
Water use reduction and leak monitoring systems are also being installed in the company’s suites, which will reduce water consumption by 15-17 per cent on average. By the end of the year, the business hopes to have these technologies deployed in as many as 25 per cent of Wyndham Destinations-managed properties.
The corporation is working toward the following targets as part of its Environmental Sustainability goals, which were stated in its ESG Report for 2021:
- 20 per cent renewable energy consumption of total electricity at managed resorts (by 2030)
- 40 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from a 2010 baseline (by 2025)
- 35 per cent reduction in water withdrawal per square foot from a 2010 baseline (by 2025)
Geoff Richards, Wyndham Destinations’ COO, stated:
“In partnership with our homeowners associations, we’re investing in environmentally sustainable operations to protect the beautiful destinations our members enjoy visiting. As a part of our responsible operations, we place a high value on protecting the environment and communities in which we live and operate.”
Wyndham Destinations provides amazing resort options for guests and club owners, including multi-bedroom suites with popular at-home features such as full kitchens, living rooms, and dining areas. Vacationers will never be far from a Wyndham vacation experience, as the company has resorts all over the world.
