Timeshare Owners ARDA Sentiment Report

The vacation ownership industry is experiencing a surge in positive momentum, driven by enthusiastic owners eager to travel. New data from the American Resort Development Association (ARDA) reveals a compelling narrative: timeshare owners are not only satisfied with their vacation experiences but are also significantly more likely to prioritize and plan their getaways than the average leisure traveler. This presents a unique opportunity for hospitality professionals in the timeshare and vacation ownership sector.

ARDA’s December 2024 Vacation Ownership Sentiment Index paints a picture of confident travelers. A remarkable 70 per cent of timeshare owners planned holiday travel, nearly 40 per cent higher than the general traveling public. This enthusiasm isn’t just about any vacation; it’s about quality experiences.

A striking 80 per cent of timeshare owners rated their most recent vacation as exceptional, a substantial increase from the previous year and far surpassing the satisfaction levels of typical leisure travelers.

This heightened satisfaction translates into action. Timeshare owners are significantly more committed to taking vacations, with 62 per cent strongly agreeing that nothing will stop them—a 10-point jump year-over-year.

Compare this to the general public’s 39 per cent agreement; the difference is clear. Furthermore, timeshare owners are 81 per cent more likely to spend more time on vacation in the coming months. This translates to increased revenue potential for resorts and local businesses alike.

Planning is also a key differentiator. A significant 60 per cent of timeshare owners have already booked their next vacation, more than double the rate of the average traveler. This proactive approach to travel planning demonstrates the value timeshare owners place on their vacation time and their confidence in their ownership.

“Timeshare owners have consistently proven to be active, engaged travelers,” says Jason Gamel, president and CEO of ARDA. “Their continued ability to prioritize vacations demonstrates how the overall quality of the timeshare product, coupled with flexible booking options, makes traveling easier and more accessible.”

This data underscores the strength of the timeshare industry and the loyalty of its customer base. For hospitality professionals, this translates into a reliable and engaged market segment. Resorts can tailor their offerings and marketing strategies to maximize engagement and drive revenue by understanding the motivations and travel habits of timeshare owners.

Key takeaways for hospitality professionals:

  • Focus on Experience: Timeshare owners value high-quality vacations. Enhance your offerings to provide exceptional experiences that exceed expectations.
  • Embrace Flexibility: Highlight flexible booking options and diverse destinations to cater to evolving travel preferences.
  • Targeted Marketing: Develop marketing campaigns that speak directly to the travel priorities of timeshare owners, emphasizing value, convenience, and quality.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage data from ARDA and other industry sources to inform your strategies and stay ahead of market trends.

The timeshare industry is thriving and driven by satisfied and enthusiastic owners. By understanding and catering to this valuable market segment, hospitality professionals can unlock significant opportunities for growth and success.
