In a significant AI development, OpenAI has introduced SearchGPT, an AI-driven search engine designed to revolutionise how we find information online.
In a previous IHS post, we discussed how Google was radically updating its algorithm process to combat the potential loss of users to AI systems.
The latest news from OpenAI is a further development with enormous implications for the future of online search, data research, business marketing and user experience.
Currently only available to a select group of users, SearchGPT aims to integrate with Chat GPT for a new style of search results.
The process will deliver an interactive search experience with relevant information and a summary of answers rather than links.
SearchGPT focuses on asking questions and receiving comprehensive answers. This process builds on the common belief that a high proportion of Google searches are question-based, although no direct statistics can accurately confirm this.
OpenAI operates with numerous third parties, news organisations, and direct content feeds to build their search response results. The plan is to merge all features into ChatGPT.
A key proposed development is for publishers to be able to manage how their content appears in OpenAI search.
OpenAI has reported that search result responses will offer clarity with named attribution, further links, sidebar detail and source links. The user will have clear and transparent information source details.
Proposed to be free at launch and without any ads, we expect that options to monetise will be introduced soon.
One element of the monetisation is that the majority of AI software businesses are, at present, operating at a loss. Investors will want to see a return on that investment soon.
A new horizon of search may prove the saviour.
