Hotel guests can now determine the carbon footprint of their hotel stays with the free-to-use Hotel Footprinting Tool. www.hotelfootprints.org
Users input their location, star rating, and the number of nights to receive a quick carbon footprint for their stay based on the average emissions of hotels in that market. Users can also use the application to calculate the carbon footprint of hotel meetings.
The Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index and the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative methodology were used to compile data from over 20,000 hotels worldwide to power the Hotel Footprinting Tool.
Greenview, the premier platform for sustainability software, data, and programs in the hotel industry, created the solution.
“As the momentum toward net-zero grows, more and more companies are looking to quantify the hotel footprint as part of business travel, and when providing offset solutions, use sound data,” said Eric Ricaurte, CEO of Greenview. We’re happy to introduce the Hotel Footprinting Tool, which gives businesses and travel brokers access to a global dataset of hotel carbon footprints that can be rapidly and easily incorporated into calculations and systems. We’re excited to release an even more thorough dataset that includes all of the big brands.”
A bulk data download is available for firms who want to calculate the carbon footprint of hotel stays quickly.

Patrick O’Meara, the Interim CEO of Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, said, “We are delighted to support the Hotel Footprinting Tool, which has been created using the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI) methodology developed by the industry. It provides a simple solution to those wishing to calculate their hotel emissions for Scope 3 business travel, and users will be assured that the estimations are globally consistent and comparable. As the requirement for such calculations increases, common approaches based on robust data are vital.”
