AHLA and WWF Enhance Hotel Kitchen Platform to Combat Food Waste
The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have significantly upgraded their Hotel Kitchen platform, a valuable resource designed to help hoteliers reduce food waste, save costs, and improve sustainability.
The revamped platform offers a range of enhancements:
- User-friendly interface: Faster access to essential resources, such as the 16-Week Champion’s Guide Checklist and the Fighting Food Waste in Hotels Video Training Series.
- Improved training experience: The Lobster Ink online training workspace provides a seamless learning experience for hospitality and tourism employees.
- Enhanced guidelines and best practices: Comprehensive guidance for hotel staff at all levels, from corporate leadership to front-line employees.
Since its launch in 2017, Hotel Kitchen has empowered thousands of hotel staff to implement effective waste reduction strategies. By adopting these practices, hotels have achieved impressive results, reducing food waste by up to 38 per cent.
This initiative aligns with AHLA’s Responsible Stay program, which focuses on sustainability in the hotel industry. By reducing waste and adopting eco-friendly practices, hotels can contribute to a more sustainable future.
“Reducing food waste is not only environmentally responsible but also financially beneficial for hotels,” said Lauren Pravlik, AHLA Vice President for Committees and Member Engagement. “The Hotel Kitchen platform empowers hoteliers to take action and make a positive impact.”
Pete Pearson, WWF’s Vice President of Food, Food Loss and Waste, added, “Hotel Kitchen has proven to be a powerful tool for reducing food waste in the hospitality industry. With these updates, we’re making it even easier for hotels to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
With these enhancements, Hotel Kitchen is poised to become an even more powerful tool for hoteliers committed to sustainability and cost-efficiency. By embracing the platform’s resources and best practices, hotels can significantly reduce food waste and protect our planet.
